ME AS AN ARTIST

Artist Statement

I am an activist artist. My content comes from the news and current events and what affects me and my family and community. I work started to become this during the election of 2016 with Trump and Clinton being the major candidates. Politics haven’t been a real big topic in my house or in my life in general, but I have gotten older and have seen how they do affect me and my community. I have created a voice on my views and topic that have come up in politics. Topics include immigration, Hispanic history and culture, and political views.

I have taken courses outside of the respective field, such as metalsmithing, casting and ceramics. I have used different elements of my printmaking within at field. In ceramics, I have pressed a relief block in to clay and I have cut up a zinc plate for a piece in metalsmithing. I enjoy working outside of printmaking and use some of the tools at I use in printmaking in other fields of art. I am a book artist and a printer. I mostly work in letterpress printing, but some of my work includes intaglio, lithography and relief printing as well.

I am still learning and exploring the field of printing and the ink that comes with it. I see myself more like an Amos Kennedy type of printer, a slap down and ink type of a printer and less of a Jennifer Farrell, beautiful typesetter type of printer. I would love to learn and master both.
